Make Sense of the Fine Print.
The right roof combines suitable materials, a properly designed assembly and clear written coverage. Use these explanations alongside the official product documents.
What does an impact rating tell me?
Class 3 and Class 4 are laboratory impact classifications. They do not promise that a roof will survive every hailstorm or that the manufacturer pays for hail damage. Test methods and roof materials can differ. Ask your insurer whether the exact product qualifies for a discount.
Is wind testing the same as a wind warranty?
No. A test classification describes performance under a defined test method. A wind warranty is a limited remedy subject to installation, sealing, components, time limits and exclusions. Panel gauge, deck, fasteners, clips and edge details can change the rating of a metal or tile assembly.
What does limited lifetime actually cover?
It is a defined warranty term, not a predicted roof lifespan. Ownership, property type, transfer rules, proration and exclusions affect coverage. The initial nonprorated period may cover different costs than later years. Read the warranty that applies to your product and installation date.
Should I upgrade my warranty?
Compare what an upgrade adds: a longer initial protection period, labor for covered material defects, tear-off, disposal, or manufacturer-backed workmanship. An upgrade does not automatically increase the product’s impact rating or cover every storm. Nortex will confirm available programs, installer eligibility, components, registration and pricing in your written proposal.
How is Nortex workmanship coverage different?
A manufacturer product warranty addresses specified product defects. Nortex’s written workmanship terms address the installation scope stated in your agreement. Some qualifying manufacturer upgrades add their own workmanship coverage. Ask for the exact warranty name and term in writing before choosing.
Can I transfer coverage when I sell my home?
Many programs allow a transfer with restrictions. Coverage may change for the next owner, and deadlines, notice, documentation or fees may apply. Check the selected manufacturer warranty before closing and keep the registration confirmation and original proposal.
What should I compare for metal, slate or tile?
Review the covering, structural suitability, fastening, underlayment and flashing separately. A long tile material warranty or metal paint warranty does not automatically cover the entire roof assembly. Request the exact product submittal, test report and warranty schedule for your home.
