Metal Roofing

Clean Lines. A Carefully Detailed Roof.
Explore standing seam, exposed-fastener panels, and formed metal profiles. The right choice starts with your roof’s geometry and the way the panels are attached.

THE MATERIAL & THE HOME

There Is More Than One Metal Roof

Metal roofing is a family of systems, not a single specification. Raised-seam panels, corrugated sheets, and formed shingles use different attachment methods and details. Steel, aluminum, and copper also bring different finish, compatibility, and cost considerations.

For a North Texas home, begin with slope, panel length, roof transitions, and the appearance you want. If you prefer a textured shingle or tile look, compare stone-coated steel alongside smooth-finish panels.

PROFILES & OPTIONS

Choose the Look. Understand the System.

Standing Seam

Raised seams conceal the primary attachment. Snap-lock and mechanically seamed systems are different options; the selected panel determines slope limits, clips, fastening, and movement details.

Exposed-Fastener Panels

Screws pass through the panel face. Corrugated and ribbed profiles can offer an economical approach, with fasteners and sealing washers included in the long-term inspection plan.

Formed Metal Profiles

Metal shingles, shake-style panels, and tile profiles change how the roof reads from the street. Check the exact system’s layout and edge accessories rather than applying vertical-panel details.

The Details Beneath the Surface

Panel Gauge, Metal and Finish

Record the proposed metal, gauge or thickness, coating, and finish in the estimate. Color alone does not tell you how two panels compare. Ask about finish warranty exclusions and material compatibility.

Movement, Slope and Water Management

Metal changes dimension with temperature. The system needs attachment and flashing details that accommodate movement. Minimum slope and seam treatment come from the selected manufacturer’s instructions.

Appearance After Hail

A roof can remain watertight while showing dents. Ask your insurer how cosmetic damage is treated, and compare weather performance separately from the appearance you expect after a storm.

Manufacturer documents are the reference for current technical requirements. Product availability, installation capability, and any credential-dependent warranty options are confirmed for your project before contracting.

PROJECT COST & LONG-TERM CARE

Compare the Scope, Then the Price

A panel price is only one part of a metal roof estimate. Roof complexity, custom trim, and how transitions are detailed can change the total substantially.

Planning a full change? Review our roof replacement process. For isolated damage or a leak, start with roof repair.

What Changes the Estimate

  • Metal, panel profile, thickness, and factory finish
  • Roof pitch, long panel runs, transport, and lifting access
  • Deck preparation, underlayment, flashings, and custom trim
  • Seaming method, penetrations, and ventilation details

Plan for Care After Installation

Keep drainage paths clear and have seams, flashings, fasteners, and penetrations checked as the selected system requires. Coordinate later rooftop work so new attachments do not compromise the assembly.

HOMEOWNER QUESTIONS

Before You Choose Your Roof

Is standing seam always better?

The best fit depends on roof slope, layout, budget, finish, and the intended maintenance plan. Compare the full assembly for your property.

Can a metal roof dent in hail?

Yes. Cosmetic denting and loss of weather protection are different questions. Evaluate the product and your policy wording separately.

Will metal make the house noisier?

The deck, insulation, attic space, and complete assembly influence interior sound. Ask about the proposed roof construction rather than assuming all metal roofs sound alike.

Does a metal roof always lower energy bills?

Performance depends on finish, roof assembly, insulation, ventilation, and the building. Compare documented product properties; avoid a guaranteed savings percentage.

Can I keep my existing gutters?

Check gutter condition, placement, roof edge details, and water discharge. Review gutter repairs or replacement with the roof scope.

What should the warranty specify?

Separate finish coverage, product coverage, installation terms, and any weathertightness coverage. Confirm which warranties apply to the proposed residential project.
